ICYMI: Large Shark Caught Off Long Island Coast A Long Island fisherman reeled in the catch of a lifetime after taking in a massive shark off the coast in Southold. North Fork fisherman John Skinner caught a six-foot shark near the Horton Point in Southold on Saturday, Aug. 24 before immediately releasing the shark after reeling it in, letting it swim off back to safety. Video: Shark Caught Off Long Island Sound A man out for a little nighttime fishing on the Long Island Sound hooked a brown shark instead. Fisherman John Skinner, of Greenport, was fishing Saturday, Aug. 24, in Southold for bluefish when he hooked a large brown shark up against some rocks. A YouTube video shows the shark and the entire 20 minute battle with the fish. Because the brown shark is prohibited in New York, he immediately released it.  There have been a number of shark sightings in the area over the summer, including in Penniman Creek in Quogue, in Jamesport, and on Tobay Beach.  Skinner said on the video…
