These Long Island Schools Honored For Excellent Scholars, Athletes
Just 35 high schools across Long Island were given a special designation for their stellar athletes who double as stellar academics. The New York State Public High School Athletic Association, or NYSPHSAA, announced its 2022-2023 “School of Distinction” list on Thursday, July 27. Out of all 84 schools given the award, 35 were from Long Island. 19: NY Delays Start Of HS Winter Sports Season
After fall sports in New York were forced to be delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the New York State Public High School Athletic Association has now announced that winter sports will also start later. The New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) COVID-19 Task Force met on Monday, Aug. 31, and determined that the start of winter sports will be moved from Monday, Nov. 16 to Monday, Nov. 30 to give schools and sections more time to complete the fall season. Interscholastic sports are officially on hold due to the challenges presented by the COVID-19 crisis. The New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) voted to delay the official start of the fall 2020 sports season and cancel the 2020 Regional and State Championships. Area Football Players Nominated For 'Heart Of A Giant' Award
A group of student-athletes in New York has been nominated for a prestigious award sponsored in part through the New York Giants. Football players in Freeport and Coram on Long Island, Port Chester in Westchester, Bardonia in Rockland and Newburgh and Wallkill in Orange County have been nominated for the “Heart of a Giant” award, and now need their communities to vote them into the finals.
