ID Released For Man Seriously Injured In Crash That Caused LIE Closure
The identity has been released for the Long Island man who was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash that closed westbound lanes on the Long Island Expressway for several hours in Hauppauge.
The man, now ID'd as Jesse Kowalewski, 38, of Medford, was driving a 1996 Toyota 4Runner near exit 56, around 10:20 a.m., Monday, Feb. 24, when he swerved to avoid striking a vehicle that had slowed for construction, according to the Suffolk County Police.
Kowalewski's 4Runner overturned, ejecting him.

A Nassau County man who was driving drunk with a child aboard was charged with DWI under Leandra's Law after a four-vehicle, chain-reaction overnight crash in Suffolk, according to authorities.

A motorcyclist and his passenger were both seriously injured in a crash on Long Island.
It happened just after 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31 in Hauppauge.
Laura Ruggiero, 36, of Hauppauge was driving a 2016 Nissan northbound on Veterans Memorial Highway when the vehicle attempted to make a left turn onto MacArthur Boulevard and collided with a 2003 Harley Davidson traveling northbound on Veterans Memorial Highway, Suffolk County Police said.
