Long Island School District Names New Superintendent
A veteran educator has been chosen to take over as the new Schools Superintendent of a Long Island school district. Following an extensive search, the Islip School Board announced that it has appointed Dr. Dennis O’Hara as its new superintendent of schools, taking over for incumbent Ellen Semel, who announced she will be stepping away following a lengthy tenure in the district. Long Island Football Players Nominated For 'Heart Of A Giant' Award
Some Long Island student-athletes have been nominated for a prestigious award sponsored in part through the New York Giants. Football players in Happaugue, Bellmore, and Farmingville have been nominated for the “Heart of a Giant” award, and now need their communities to vote them into the finals. Each week, 10 football players in the Tri-state area are nominated for voting, and their communities have 25 days to vote them in. Six finalists and four honorable mention finalists will be named. Hauppauge High School Teacher Accused Of Sexually Abusing Boy
A 53-year-old Long Island high school teacher has been charged with sexually abusing a student when the teen was 16 years old, Suffolk County Police announced Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 14. The alleged victim, now 18, reported to detectives that when he was a 16-year-old student at Hauppauge High School, he was sexually abused by his chorus teacher, Mark Kimes, at the teacher’s home in Moriches.
