Reward Offered 2 Years After 'Loving' Father Killed In Hit-Run Crash On Long Island Expressway Two years after a beloved husband and father was killed in a hit-and-run crash on the Long Island Expressway, police are no closer to catching his killer. Robert Twiford, age 61, of Melville, died Dec. 5, 2022, after being struck on the off-ramp of eastbound I-495 at exit 60 in Ronkonkoma. Suffolk County Police said Twiford was lying in the roadway at around 8 p.m when he was struck by at least one vehicle, which fled the scene. Driver Fatally Strikes Melville Man In Hit-Run Ronkonkoma Crash, Police Say A driver who fatally struck a 61-year-old man on the Long Island Expressway remains at large, police said. The crash happened in Ronkonkoma at about 8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 5, Suffolk County Crime Stoppers reported on Thursday, Dec. 15. Authorities said Robert Twiford parked his vehicle on the off-ramp of the eastbound LIE at Exit 60 and got out of the vehicle. A car struck Twiford while he was in the lane of travel and then drove away from the scene, according to the report.
