A fire broke out at Piccola Bussola shortly before 12:45 p.m. on Jericho Turnpike in Mineola, fire officials said. Upon arrival, fire crews found the restaurant and the apartment above the restaurant fully engulfed in flames. The blaze broke out Sunday, June 14 at 1:50 a.m. in Uniondale at the Park Gardens Senior Center located at 840 Uniondale Ave.  Nassau County Police officers, with the assistance of the Uniondale Fire Department, were able to safely evacuate all residents.  The 75-year old female resident suffering from cardiac arrest was transported to a nearby hospital and was later pronounced dead by a hospital physician.  One officer suffering from smoke inhalation was also transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. …

Suffolk County Woman Killed In Southern State Parkway Crash A 58-year-old Long Island woman was killed in a fiery, single-vehicle crash on the Southern State Parkway, state police said. It happened on the westbound side at around 7 a.m. on Sunday, May 3 near Exit 15S in Hempstead. The woman, Gresmor J. Blackman-Douglas, of Amityville, was driving a 2013 Nissan Rogue when she lost control of the vehicle, leaving the roadway, striking a tree and causing the vehicle to catch fire, according to police. Blackman-Douglas succumbed to her injuries at the scene and was pronounced dead by a Nassau County PD paramedic. An investigation is ongoing.
