Odometer Rollback Scheme Orchestrated By Long Island Auto Prez, Saleswoman, DA Says
A Long Island car dealer and her associate are accused of duping customers into buying high mileage used cars by changing their odometer readings.
Ashley Duff, age 27, and Ginger Sipes, age 58, both of Shirley, are facing fraud and conspiracy charges in Suffolk County Court.
Prosecutors said Duff’s company, ABB Auto World Inc., bought high mileage cars from auctions and then had their odometers rolled back to show lower mileage. Some of the vehicles had over 200,000 miles on them.

A young Long Island man has been nabbed for scamming a woman out of thousands on what she thought was a rental home deposit, authorities said.
Justin Campos, age 22 of Rocky Point, was taken into custody on Monday, Nov. 6 just before 10:45 p.m. for his alleged scam in Mastic, according to Suffolk County Police.
Campos, who also uses the aliases Campos Bracato and Justin Campos-Brocato, posted a picture of a home on Applegate Drive to Facebook Marketplace, claiming that the property was for rent.

Adeed Fayaz, age 26, of Deer Park in Suffolk County died Tuesday, Feb. 7 at Brookdale Hospital, according to the NYPD.

Police are searching for a gunman who opened fire on an off-duty NYPD officer, critically wounding him, as he attempted to purchase a vehicle.
The officer, who has not been named, went to purchase the vehicle that was posted in a Facebook Marketplace ad around 7 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 4 in the area of 472 Ruby St., said New York City Police.
When the officer and his brother-in-law arrived, a man almost immediately pulled out a gun and demanded the money, said the NYPD.

A Hudson Valley man was shot dead in broad daylight while attempting to purchase a motorcycle off of Facebook Marketplace.
The incident took place in the Bronx around 3:40 p.m., Wednesday, May 18 at East 144th and Exterior streets in Mott Haven, said the NYPD.
The victim, Rockland County resident Jefferson Jimenez Hernandez, age 20, of Spring Valley, was found unconscious and unresponsive, with gunshot wounds to the head, NYPD said.
EMS responded and transported Hernandez to NYC Health and Hospitals/Lincoln where he was pronounced dead, they added.

A Long Island man was arrested after allegedly stealing a pair of sneakers from a man he was supposed to buy them from.
Alexander Almonte, age 20, was arrested around 4:50 p.m., Tuesday, June 1, by Nassau County Police in Bethpage.
According to detectives, the victim, a 20-year-old man, agreed to sell sneakers to an Almonte through Facebook Marketplace.
Both agreed to meet at the 7-Eleven located at 4220 Hempstead Turnpike. As the victim was showing the sneakers to Almonte he grabbed the sneakers and ran southbound on Seitz Drive, police said.
