Nassau County Man Sentenced For Strangling Wife To Death
A Long Island man was sentenced for strangling his wife to death in their home last year following an argument.
John Gerges, age 61, of Merrick, was sentenced on Monday, Sept. 13, to 21 years in prison and five years post-release supervision.
On Tuesday, July 20, John Gerges pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in the death of 58-year-old Marvat Gerges, according to Acting Nassau County District Attorney Joyce Smith.
The DA's Office said the defendant strangled his wife on Feb. 22, 2020, following a 3 a.m. argument over the cleanliness of their home.

Long Island Man Injures Officer While Being Booked On Domestic Violence Charge, Police Say
A Long Island man was arrested for allegedly attacking a police officer following his arrest for domestic violence.
Kenneth Lewis, age 36, of Hempstead, was arrested around 7:20 a.m., Sunday, July 18, while being processed for a domestic incident in Baldwin, said the Nassau County Police.
According to detectives, Lewis became physically combative with the officers. As a result, one of the officers received injuries to his left wrist.
The officer was transported by a Nassau County Police Ambulance to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.

A 5-month-old child was present when a Long Island man allegedly attacked his ex-girlfriend and attempted to smother her with a pillow, according to police.
The incident took place around 6:20 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 15, when Nassau County Police responded to a home in Farmingdale for a domestic violence report.
According to detectives, Patrick Okula, 31, of Bethpage, became involved in a domestic dispute at a Greenway Drive residence with his ex-girlfriend, a 28-year-old female.

A 68-year-old man may spend the rest of his life in prison for allegedly murdering his wife and attempting to kill his brother-in-law with a shotgun in their Long Island home.
Levittown resident Thomas DiNapoli was arraigned on Tuesday, Oct. 27 and charged for murder, attempted murder, and assault, following an incident in their Cord Lane home in August.
It is alleged that on Thursday, Aug. 13, DiNapoli and his wife, 61, got into an argument in their home, which ended when he shot her in the eye and neck with a 9mm rifle.
