A Long Island police officer who was critically injured by an alleged drunk driver will be released from the hospital following a month-long stay. Timothy Thrane of the Suffolk County PD was directing traffic at the intersection of William Floyd Parkway and Yaphank Woods Blvd., on Wednesday, Nov. 3 when a drunk driver struck the rear of a parked GMC Yukon causing that vehicle to strike Thrane. A Long Island police officer is back to work just over a year after he was critically injured in a crash with a drunk driver and placed in a medically-induced coma. Suffolk Couty Police Officer Christian Vidal was struck while driving northbound on Fifth Avenue in Bay Shore when the intoxicated driver veered into his lane on Sept. 1 of 2019, according to police. Released From Hospital
The police officer who was seriously injured in a fatal crash with a drunk driver has been released from the hospital. Suffolk County Police Officer Christian Vidal was released from Stony Brook University Hospital on Friday, Sept. 27 around 10:30 a.m., officials say. Police say Vidal was driving northbound on Fifth Avenue in Bay Shore when a southbound vehicle veered into the northbound lanes and struck his vehicle on Sunday, Sept. 1.
