The Long Island racing community is mourning the loss of a beloved stock car racer whose immense home auto museum could surely rival the best of them.
Martin Himes, of Bay Shore, died Monday, Oct. 23, at the age of 84, relatives announced on GoFundMe.
“It is with extremely heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Martin L. Himes, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend,” said Bryan Johnson.

Rite Aid Announces 20 NY Stores Slated For Closure After Declaring Bankruptcy
Rite Aid has announced specific store closures just days after the struggling pharmacy chain filed for bankruptcy.
Of the 154 closures nationwide announced on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 20 are in New York, 14 of which are on Long Island.
Rite Aid currently has 2,100 stores and about 45,000 employees.

The Hero Joint, located at 74B East Main Street in Patchogue, closed permanently, citing “economic conditions,” on Sunday, Oct. 15, according to a post made just a few days before its shuttering.

Long Island Man Admits Posing As Nypd Officer To Get Store Discounts
Impersonating a cop to save a buck will land a Long Island man in prison for years.
Eric Diaz, age 43, of Brentwood, pleaded guilty to a felony count in Suffolk County Court Wednesday, Oct. 11, after being caught with multiple fraudulent NYPD identification cards.
According to prosecutors, Diaz posed as a cop on multiple occasions while visiting a retail store in Bay Shore between April and May 2023.
During the visits, he displayed what looked like a police badge, handcuffs, and a handgun and asked for a “police discount.”
