Nearly a year after the quick thinking of Long Island coaches saved the life of a student who went into cardiac arrest, the teen’s father is honoring the school and raising awareness about the importance of AEDs. Three quick-thinking high school coaches on Long Island are getting the hero's treatment for saving a basketball player’s life after he collapsed on the court. The terrifying ordeal happened Tuesday, Dec. 6, at Chaminade High School in Mineola, school officials said. Seventeen-year-old varsity player PJ Kellachan was heading to the sideline following a drill when he suddenly collapsed and began suffering a seizure. Long Island Officers Revive Man Who Suffered Cardiac Arrest
A Long Island man has two police officers to thank for saving his life. Emergency crews were called to a home in Suffolk County on Church Street in Holbrook Friday, May 13, with reports that an 81-year-old man had suffered cardiac arrest. When officers arrived, they found the man unresponsive and without a pulse, police said. That's when Fifth Precinct officers Marcin Pawezka and Nicholas Vezzi began administering CPR and used an automated external defibrillator (AED).
