Officers from the Nassau County Police Department responded to CVS on Merrick Road in Wantagh shortly before 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 30, where there was a report of a woman placing items into an empty shopping bag. The man died on Sunday, Jan. 5 after reporting he was in an altercation in the Riverhead on Thursday, Jan. 2. Wayne Sapiane reported to police that he was struck on the head by a man Suffolk County Police now identify as 38-year-old Daniel Hughes in the area of West Main Street in Riverhead. Man on Jet Ski Rescued From Merrick Bay Marsh On Big Crow Island A man on a jet ski was rescued from Merrick Bay. Marine rescuers responded at 8:46 p.m. to the bay for a jet skier in distress on Wednesday night, July 10., according to Nassau County Police. Marine Bureau, Aviation Bureau, U.S. Coast Guard, and 7th precinct officers, along with multiple fire departments, searched the bay, police said. The Nassau Heli 5 helicopter located the man in the marsh on Big Crow Island, according to police.
