West Hempstead Man, 20, Tried To Con 82-Year-Old Out Of Thousands, Police Say

A 20-year-old man was nabbed trying to con an elderly man out of money in a classic grandparent scam.

Saul Agraz Morales, of West Hempstead, was arrested around 10: 20 a.m., on Wednesday, May 15, for alleged grand larceny that took place in Roosevelt, said the Nassau County Police.

According to detectives, Morales contacted an 82-year-old man at his home in Ohio on Tuesday, May 14, and told him that his granddaughter had been arrested and he needed to send $9,200 dollars to a Roosevelt address for bail, police said.

The victim complied and sent the money, but then became concerned and contacted the police.

A thorough investigation was conducted and Morales was arrested when he took the package containing the money sent by the victim, police said. 

Morales was charged with grand larceny. He is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, May 16.
