Suspect Nabbed In Shooting Death Of Long Island Man

The shooting happened in East Patchogue outside a residence on the 500 block of Taylor Avenue at around 5:10 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21. 

The victim, Tyrell D. Smith, 25, of Shirley, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

On Tuesday, Oct. 29, Suffolk County Police arrested a Mastic man in connection with the crime.

Malik Roberts, 22, was apprehended in Brentwood at around 3:45 p.m. Tuesday. Squad detectives charged Roberts with second-degree murder.

Roberts was held overnight at the Third Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Wednesday, Oct. 30.
