The incident took place around 7:45 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 10, on Elmont Road in Elmont, said the Nassau County Police.
According to detectives, a woman was driving southbound on Elmont Road when she became involved in a dispute with a man in another vehicle.
While stopped in traffic on the overpass to the Southern State Parkway, the man got out of his vehicle and began punching the side view mirrors of the victim’s car, police said.
As the victim got out of her car to take pictures of the damage, the man shoved the woman and took her phone.
He then threw the phone over the overpass and down onto the Southern State Parkway before fleeing southbound on Elmont Road, police said.
The man is described as being a male black, 5-foot-9l, medium build, wearing a black hat, black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. He fled in a black BMW sedan.
The woman was not injured.
