Most recently there were two sightings of the bull over the weekend in Manorville, according to Frankie Floridia with Strong Island Animal Rescue.

Suffolk County Police said the bull broke through a fence on a farm located at 136 Barnes Road in Manorville. The first sighting of the bull was reported on Tuesday, July 20, in Mastic. The animal has also been spotted in Shirley.

Floridia said the animal rescue groups are working with an expert on cows from Skylands Animal Sanctuary in New Jersey, where they plan to bring the bull eventually. He said they have set up a horse fence with a spring-loaded door to trap the bull. The area is filled with grain, sweet feed, corn and other foods to entice the bull to the area.

Floridia said the following animal rescue groups are involved in the effort:

  • Strong Island Animal Rescue
  • Skylands Animal Sanctuary
  • Lisa’s Run
  • Nobody Starves On Long Island
  • Broken Antler
  • SPCA
  • Eddie’s Canine Search And Rescue

Floridia said there are a number of names floating around for the bull, including "Barney" because the animal escaped from a farm on Barnes Road. He said ultimately, Mike, from the animal sanctuary will name the bull.

“Please let Mike, the expert, do his job, and don’t go looking for him," Floridia added. "If you see [the bull], call 911. And try to keep things quiet in the area.”
