The crash occurred in Nassau County around 8 p.m., Sunday, March 20, on Sunrise Highway near South Main Street in Freeport.
According to detectives, a 66-year-old man was driving westbound in a white 2020 Subaru Forester, when he struck the 49-year old male pedestrian.
As a result of the collision, the man suffered multiple trauma injuries and was transported to an area hospital, Nassau County Police said.
He is listed in critical condition.
The identity of the victim has not yet been released by police.
The driver remained at the scene and was not injured.
The vehicle went through a brake and safety check.
The investigation is ongoing.
