Nassau County Police Second Squad detectives said the incident took place around 1:11 p.m., Friday, May 10, in Woodbury, police said.
According to detectives, Peter Cannetti, 34, was walking in the parking lot at 7956 Jericho Turnpike, when he allegedly approached the 18-year-old who was driving in the parking lot and accused her of striking him with her car, police said.
Cannetti intimidated and coerced her into giving him $100 for an alleged injury to his foot by threatening to contact the police and her parents, police said.
He then obtained the victim’s phone number. Since the incident, Cannetti allegedly made several attempts to contact the victim and extort additional money from her, police said.
The victim then reported the incident to police and after a subsequent investigation; detectives were able to locate Cannetti on Sunday, May 12, in his vehicle in another parking lot of 7977 Jericho Turnpike, Woodbury, police added.
After pulling behind him with their lights activated, Cannetti quickly reversed his car in an attempt to escape and struck the unmarked vehicle causing minor damage. Detectives were then able to place him under arrest without further incident. No injuries were reported.
Cannetti was charged with grand larceny, attempted grand larceny, coercion, and criminal mischief.
He was released on an appearance ticket and is due back in court on May 24.
