A Suffolk County Sheriff’s deputy on patrol on the LIE in Brookhaven at approximately 8:50 p.m. on Saturday, Feb 15 attempted to stop Mastic resident Walter Healy when he was clocked driving 88 mph in a posted 55 mph zone.
According to the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office, Healy, 49, drove in a reckless manner, followed other vehicles too closely, failed to maintain his lane of travel, and failed to stop or slow for the deputy sheriff unit with active emergency lights and sirens for eight minutes.
When he eventually stopped, the Sheriff’s deputy said that Healy demonstrated clues while performing standardized field sobriety tests indicating he was intoxicated, and he was taken into custody.
At Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office Station 1, a breathalyzer determined that Healy had a blood alcohol content of .21 percent.
He was arrested and charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, and cited multiple vehicle and traffic violations.
