ID Released For Long Island Woman Killed When Boat Is Struck By 50-Foot Sea Ray

Both women killed in separate boat crashes on Long Island on Sunday, July 14 has been identified.

The most recent crash happened around 6:30 p.m. east of Moriches Inlet, when a 50-foot Sea Ray with three people aboard was traveling westbound a quarter mile off Cupsogue Beach at Cupsogue Beach County Park when it struck a drifting boat broadside with a married couple aboard, Suffolk County Police said.

Mi Hua Hsu, 56, of Shirley, has been identified as the woman killed in the crash.

Hsu and her husband, Jack Chin, were on a boat, drifting just east of the Moriches Inlet, when their vessel was struck by 50-foot Sea Ray, operated by Robert Burkhardt, 65, of East Moriches.

Chin, 50, was taken to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue for treatment of minor injuries. The investigation is ongoing.

The other fatal crash happened when a jet ski collided with a 35-foot Fountain motorboat at about 10:30 a.m. Sunday in the Middle Bay waterways, southeast of Parsonage Cove, according to Nassau County Police.

As a result of this collision, Caitlin Rose McDonald, 18, of Rockville Center was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead by a hospital physician. The investigation is ongoing. 

Both boats were impounded for safety checks.
