New York City resident Troy Davis, 33, was taken into custody by troopers at approximately 7:15 a.m. on Thursday, May 21, for crimes committed in Hampton Bays and Holtsville in February, police said.
It is alleged that Davis was involved in a bail bond scam, where he advised his victims that one of their family members had been arrested and required bail money to secure their release.
Davis allegedly acted as a courier and intentionally deprived two elderly people out of money totaling $31,500.00.
Following his arrest by State Police, Davis was turned over to the Suffolk County Police Department, where he was charged with third-degree grand larceny and first-degree scheme to defraud. Davis was later released and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date to respond to the charges.
Anyone who believes they may have been one of Davis’ victims has been advised to contact State Police on Long Island by calling (631) 756-3300 or the Suffolk County Financial Crimes Unit at (631) 852-6821.
