Long Island Sporting Goods Store Shut Down For Allegedly Selling Illegal Assault Firearms

A Long Island sporting goods store has been shut down and its owner is facing charges for allegedly illegally selling assault weapons and ammo, officials said.

Suffolk County District Attorney Timothy Sini announced on Thursday, Jan. 9 that St. James resident Chester Pergan, 53, the owner of Chester’s Hunting and Fishing store in Ronkonkoma, pleaded not guilty to a 69-count indictment charging him with weapons offenses.

Sini said that more than 100 assault rifles and nearly 850 high-capacity magazines were seized by investigators at Pergan’s store.

After pleading not guilty, bail was set for Pergan at $400,000 cash bail or $800,000 bond.
