Only boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth, and preparing food, until further notice, the city said in a statement.
There have been no reported illnesses from E. coli in Long Beach.
Long Beach officials are distributing bottled water Sunday, June 23 for Long Beach residents only.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo directed the state Office of Emergency Management to deliver 30,000 bottles of water to of Long Beach on Friday, June 21.
"Nothing is more important than the health and safety of New Yorkers and we will continue to coordinate closely with local officials and provide any resources necessary until this situation is fully resolved," Cuomo said.
"We encourage residents to check on their neighbors to make sure they are informed and to continue logging on to longbeachny.gov for updates," the city said.
