These Long Island Fishing Piers Are Catching On

Love fishing but don't have a boat? Try pier fishing. Long Island has plenty of places for anglers to drop a line. Here are five to try:

Captree State Park, 3500 Ocean Pkwy, Bay Shore: A fishing haven and a picnicker's delight, Captree State Park is located on the eastern tip of Jones Island at the end of the Ocean Parkway. There are two large fishing piers, a bait shop, and a restaurant.

Jones Beach State Park, Field 10, Wantagh: There are four fishing piers on the state boat channel and a bait and tackle shop that has rental fishing poles available for those who want to fish but do not have the equipment.

Long Beach Municipal Fishing Pier, 700 Magnolia Blvd., Long Beach: Parking is free and restrooms are available and open during the town's Recreation Department hours.

Wantagh Park, 1 King Road, Wantagh: There's a fishing pier just beyond the marina open year-round. There is some limited seating, tables along the pier, and great views.

Harborfront Park, Port Jefferson: The 350-foot fishing pier on Port Jefferson's waterfront offers expansive North Shore views and plenty of fishing opportunities.
