Areas used to a white Christmas may not get one, while southern areas not used to snowy Decembers may get a wintry surprise.

According to Accuweather.commeteorologist Ben Noll, anywhere from 35 to 40 percent of the U.S. will be covered in snow on Christmas Day, reported Accuweather.com.

Noll expects that number to be less this year, due to the lack of "sustained cold."

The El Niño is expected to continue to bring warmer than normal temperatures to this area.
