It may not feel that way, but summer is far from over. A stretch of cool, comfortable days will be followed by a return to more seasonable temperatures, according to the National Weather Service. At least six homes were heavily damaged and roads were washed out following a powerful storm system that brought drenching rain and widespread flooding to parts of New York and Connecticut. After 4 to 6 inches of rain fell through much of the Northeast in the second half of the weekend, a new round of potentially powerful storms packed with drenching downpours aims for the region on the first day of the workweek. A tornado touched down in the Hudson Valley as post-Tropical Depression Debby swept through the Northeast. The incident happened at 5:52 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, in Ulster County near the New York State Thruway interchange in the town of New Paltz. A line of storms is now moving across the region from west to east, producing drenching downpours that are flooding some areas.
