World War II Era Letter In Bottle Discovered By Woman During Tropical Storm Debby Shortly after Debby made landfall along Florida's west coast as a Category 1 hurricane earlier this month, it produced something no forecaster — or anyone else — could have predicted. Suzanne Flament Smith, age 46, of Tampa, discovered it on Wednesday, Aug. 7, in the form of a World War II-era artifact. She said she found it while collecting debris in the city of Safety Harbor. Former High School All-County Football, Basketball Standout In Westchester Dies George Taranto, a Connecticut resident and former high school sports standout in Westchester County, has died at the age of 77. According to his obituary, Taranto, of Danbury, was a graduate of Ardsley High School and was all-county in football and basketball. He served in the United States Navy from 1963 to 1965. Taranto worked as a buyer for Bayer Aspirin in Tarrytown for more than 35 years.  He also loved to hunt, fish and golf. Pound Ridge Volunteer Firefighter, Mailman Peter Beccaria, 89 Peter Richard Beccaria, a longtime mailman in Northern Westchester and a volunteer firefighter in Pound Ridge for half a century, died at age 89 in Palm Coast, Florida. He was born on December 27, 1928 in Mount Kisco to Esther and Frank Beccaria. He attended school in Pound Ridge and Katonah and then served four years in the Navy in Korea. Peter married his wife Peggy in 1959 and had two sons, Michael and Patrick.  He moved to Palm Coast from Pound Ridge in 2003. He was 47.  The son of the late Charles E. Kelly and Kathy Rigney Kelly, he was born on July 13 in Middletown.  A veteran of the United States Navy, Corky served his country from 1988-1992. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1308, Catholic War Veterans and The Church of the Infant Saviour Church. He also gained the rank of Eagle Scout.
