Dean's List College Student From Hudson Valley Found Dead In Dorm Room A college student from the Hudson Valley has died at age 20. Dutchess County resident Cory Gallinger, of Salt Point, a junior at Le Moyne College in Syracuse, was found unresponsive in his dorm room on Sunday, March 21, according to college officials. The cause of death has not been released. On Monday, March 22, a vigil was held outside a chapel on campus, with approximately 1,000 attending, according to Syracuse.com. NY State Police Donate Over 1,300 Toys To Area Children For Christmas New York State Police in Troop K, with the help of local businesses and the United States Marine Corps, has amassed 1,329 toys for donation to the Dutchess County Toys for Tots chapter.  Between Wednesday, Nov. 25 and Friday, Dec. 18, members of the community dropped off new, unwrapped toys at Troop K headquarters in Salt Point for donation. Then, area members of the Marine Corps picked up the donated presents for distribution to children in the area.  All 18 police stations in Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess and Columbia counties participated in the Toys for Tots program.

Fire Displaces Family Of Four In Area A family of four in Dutchess County was temporarily displaced over Memorial Day Weekend after their house went up in flames, destroying a garage and partial living space. All hands were on deck at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 24, where there was a reported house fire on Ring Road in Salt Point. Crews were able to contain the fire mostly to the garage - which housed an apartment - before it spread to the main house.
