Sheriff IDs Man Killed In Route 9 Crash
Authorities have released details in the Friday, Jan. 17 crash along Route 9 that left one person dead in Putnam County. Norton Segarra, 74, of Beacon, NY was heading south when he veered into the northbound lanes and was struck by a tractor-trailer driven by a 60-year-old Milford, CT man around 1:30 p.m. near Route 403 in Garrison, County Sheriff Kevin J. McConville said. Segarra was pronounced dead at the scene near Philipstown, and the driver of the truck was taken to Westchester Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. A stretch of Route 9 in the Hudson Valley is closed as the result of a serious crash. The crash, which happened on Friday, Jan. 17 around 1:45 p.m. in Putnam County, has left Route 9 closed in Garrison in the area of Old Highland Turnpike, the Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Services announced. Police and first responders are operating in the area. Motorists are asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes. The road will remain closed for an "extended period of time," officials said. A 61-year-old woman is facing drunk driving charges after being stopped on a Hudson Valley roadway, police said. A hit-run driver struck and killed a woman in the region, according to New York State Police. The crash happened in Dutchess County at approximately 8:35 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26, near the intersection of Old Hopewell Road and Route 9 in the town of Wappinger. A late-night brush fire prompted a quick response from firefighters near a residential street in Northern Westchester. The blaze began on Thursday, Nov. 30 just before midnight in Croton-on-Hudson at the corner of Warren Road and Briggs Lane, which is close to Route 9, according to the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department.
