Authorities are investigating a report involving a Hudson Valley student allegedly photographed with what appeared to be a firearm on school grounds, police announced. The investigation began in Putnam County late Tuesday, Dec. 10, when the concerning image was reported to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office School Resource Officer by the Putnam Valley School District, the Sheriff's Office announced on Wednesday, Dec. 11. Police conducted an extensive investigation after a student was seen sitting in the parking lot of a Hudson Valley high school holding what appeared to be a gun, authorities said. The incident began in Putnam County on Friday, April 19 around 12:15 p.m., when a Putnam Valley High School student reported that she had seen a boy sitting inside a car in the parking lot while holding what looked like a gun, according to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office. A man faces numerous charges after allegedly stealing catalytic converters from vehicles throughout the Hudson Valley and Connecticut, including one that was parked at a high school, police said. A total of 31 of the Hudson Valley's best and brightest high school seniors were among 300 chosen to compete with some of the nation’s top students in the Regeneron Science Talent Search competition. The 300 scholars were chosen out of 1,760 applications that were received from 611 high schools across 49 states. Some local cheerleaders have a little more pep in their step than usual after being crowned as champions. North Rockland High School earned top honors at the 70th annual Westchester County Cheerleading Invitational, which was held at the County Center in White Plains. A student who has been barred from attending classes at Putnam Valley High School after making threatening comments and a questionable online post attempted to attend school on Thursday.
