At least six homes were heavily damaged and roads were washed out following a powerful storm system that brought drenching rain and widespread flooding to parts of New York and Connecticut. On Long Island, Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine issued a state of emergency on Monday, Aug. 19, after surveying flood damage caused when up to nine inches of rain fell in parts of the county overnight. “Our longtime Mill Pond is gone. Westchester Man Who Burned Down House At Owner's Request Nabbed, Police Say
A Westchester man who was allegedly commissioned to burn a rental house down in Connecticut and attempted to elude arrest has been busted by police following a two-year investigation. Connecticut State Police announced the arrest of Yonkers resident Leon “Pops” Carson, Jr., who was allegedly set a mattress on fire at an Oxford rental home at the behest of the owner, Delores Lee, who had recently taken out a $300,000 insurance policy on the property. A Connecticut man has been identified as the pilot and single occupant of a small plane that crashed in Vermont, according to state police. A state police investigation in Vermont determined that a 1975 Piper PA-34-200T plane traveling from Burlington, Vermont, to Oxford in Connecticut that crashed near Bald Mountain in Vermont earlier this week was being operated by 31-year-old Ramsey Samson Ah-Nee, 31, of Manchester.
