A quick-thinking assistant fire chief took matters into his own hands, forcing entry into a burning Putnam County home and using a fire extinguisher to knock down flames before more crews arrived. The blaze broke out in Mahopac around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26, at a one-story home near Hill Street and Hitchcock Hill Road, prompting police to close Hill Street between Bullethole Road and Hitchcock Hill Road during the afternoon hours. House Fire Causes Road Closure In Mahopac
A house fire has closed a stretch of road to traffic in Putnam County. Hill Street in Mahopac between Bullethole Road and Hitchcock Hill Road is closed as firefighters battle a house fire in the area, Carmel Police announced on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at around 3:30 p.m. Motorists are asked to avoid the area and use detours. Car Rolls Over On Road In Mahopac, Causes Temporary Closure
One lane of a Hudson Valley road was temporarily closed after a car flipped, firefighters said. The crash happened in Putnam County on Friday, Oct. 18 just before 8 a.m., when a vehicle flipped at the intersection of Hill Street and Lakeside Road in Mahopac, according to the Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department. Arriving first responders evaluated the driver. However, they declined any medical attention. One lane of traffic was closed for a short time while crews operated at the crash scene. The cause of the crash was not released.

Drunk Driver Hits Motorist, Causes Them Severe Injuries In Hudson Valley, Police Say
A 65-year-old man faces several felony charges after hitting a motorcyclist in the Hudson Valley while allegedly driving drunk, causing them severe injuries, police said. The incident happened in Putnam County on Wednesday, June 12 just after 5 p.m., when a downed motorcyclist was found with serious leg injuries after they were struck by a gray Cadillac SUV in a residential neighborhood off Hill Street in Mahopac, according to Carmel Police. A Hudson Valley road had to be temporarily closed after a car with two people inside crashed down an embankment and hit a tree. The crash happened in Putnam County on Sunday, May 7 around 2:30 p.m., when first responders were sent to Hill Street in Mahopac on a report of a vehicle crashing into an embankment, according to the Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department. Fire Breaks Out In Area House
First responders rushed to the scene after a fire broke out in a Mahopac home over the weekend. Crews from the Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to a home on Kayla Lane, near Hill Street, at approximately 8 p.m. on Sunday, May 10, where there was a report of a possible chimney fire, the department’s public information officer, Jack Casey, said.
