A woman from the region is accused of pulling a fast one on a car seller by using counterfeit money to steal their vehicle. State Police in Rensselaer County said troopers were first contacted in July 2023 by a Troy resident claiming that a woman had tried to purchase their car using fraudulent money. The woman allegedly gave the victim multiple counterfeit bills in exchange for a car that had been listed on Facebook Marketplace. Woman Charged With Stealing Over $3K Of Property From Northern Westchester Mall: Police
A 32-year-old woman has been charged with both stealing over $3,000 worth of property from a mall in Northern Westchester and possessing counterfeit money, police said. On Friday, Dec. 9, around 4:20 p.m., police responded to a reported larceny in Yorktown Heights at the Jefferson Valley Mall. While at the mall, authorities were then notified that the suspect's vehicle was driving south on Gomer Street, and found the vehicle stopped on the shoulder of the road with the suspect standing outside holding the stolen merchandise, according to Yorktown Police. Westchester Stop & Shop Customer Receives Counterfeit Bills From Self-Checkout Machine: Police
A customer using a self-checkout machine at a Westchester County grocery store received counterfeit bills as change, police say. On Monday, Oct. 24 at around 4 p.m., North Castle Police received a call from a person who reported receiving two $10 bills from a Stop & Shop in North White Plains at 670 North Broadway, according to police. The customer then completed a witness deposition, police said. It is not known where the counterfeit bills came from.

Fake $100 Bills Being Distributed At Businesses In Hudson Valley Community, Authorities Say
Authorities issued an alert about counterfeit money that has been distributed to businesses in the Hudson Valley. The Village of Millerton Police Department in Dutchess County made the announcement on Tuesday, Aug. 23. So far, police found that counterfeit $100 bills have been distributed to businesses in the Millerton area. Authorities asked anyone who has received counterfeit money to call the Millerton Police Department at 518-789-6355.

Know Her? Woman Accused Of Passing Counterfeit Bill In Area
Police are attempting to identify a woman who allegedly used a counterfeit $100 bill at an area market, according to state police. The woman purportedly used the counterfeit bill in Ulster County at Tantillo's Farm Market in Gardiner at approximately 3:36 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 14. The bill's serial number was "LE09714562E," and police said it has also been used in Orange and Dutchess counties. Two men were taken into custody after allegedly attempting to use phony $100 bills to make purchases in Northern Westchester, police said. The two suspects entered a Mount Kisco business on South Moger Avenue at approximately 10:40 a.m. on Sunday, March 22, attempting to make small purchases using a $100 bill, Westchester County Police said. An increase in the use of counterfeit money has been reported in Putnam County. Currently, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office is investigating several cases in which counterfeit $100 bills are being used to make smaller purchases at convenience stores, drug stores, and eateries, the department said. The small purchase being made allows the suspects to walk away with legal money leaving their unsuspecting victims short financially, the department said. An 18-year-old was arrested after allegedly using counterfeit money to purchase an Apple Watch in Pleasant Valley, police say. The arrest came Monday, Feb. 11 after the incident occurred last fall. State Troopers responded to a report of a fraudulent purchase that was made using counterfeit money in November of 2018. Northern Westchester businesses are being warned about a spike in the number of counterfeit bills being passed in the area. Peekskill Police said they have recently received reports of several unidentified subjects passing phony $100 bills at local businesses.
