Westport Author Sally Allen Launches New Book At Barnes & Noble WESTPORT, Conn. -- Sally Allen will celebrate the launch of her book "Unlocking Worlds: A Reading Companion for Book Lovers" at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, at Barnes & Noble, 1076 Post Road E., Westport. Allen has always loved books, almost to a fault. At the age of 8, she was nearly sent home from a friend’s birthday party for reading during the festivities. She is an avid reader, writer, college instructor, book group moderator, and founder and editor of the book news website, Books, Ink at Hamlethub. Central Hudson Supports Regional Manufacturers In Kingston KINGSTON, N.Y. -- Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. recently awarded economic development grants to two Kingston-based manufacturers, JBT Wolf-Tec and Stavo Industries. The $62,500 grants awarded to each company provide money for infrastructure improvements to their nearby business campuses as part of Central Hudson’s Shovel Ready economic development program. Woman Faces Charges Of Assaulting Newtown Officers NEWTOWN — A Naugatuck woman is facing assault charges after being accused of hitting two police officers and trying to escape from a holding cell, according to the News-Times. Paula Wickman, 28, was charged Tuesday night with four counts of assault on a police officer, one count of third-degree criminal mischief and one count of interfering with an officer, the News-Times reported. Yorktown Montessori School Book Fair Benefits Children's Hospital YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- Students at Our Montessori School in Yorktown showed their school and community spirit recently at the school’s annual Scholastic Book Fair. Each day for a week leading up to the book fair, students brought in bags of loose change and raised $180 to purchase books for the family resource room at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital in Valhalla. Man Killed By Train In Stratford Was Reported Missing Two Months Ago STRATFORD, Conn. -- A man hit and killed by an Amtrak train Wednesday at the Stratford station has been identified as a Milford resident who had been reported missing, according to the Connecticut Post. The death of Milford resident Daniel McCool, 38, has been ruled a suicide by the state chief medical examiner's office, according to the Post. McCool has been reported missing Sept. 17 and had been last seen between Sept. 2 and 15 in Bridgeport, according to ctpost.com. Poughkeepsie Man Accused Of Smuggling Drugs Into Dutchess County Jail POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- A Poughkeepsie man has been arrested on charges of trying to smuggle drugs into the Dutchess County Jail, the county Sheriff's Office said. William S. Smart, 59, of Poughkeepsie, was arrested about 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, authorities said. Sheriff's deputies were contacted to respond to the jail for a report of a visitor who was found with contraband. Beekman Leads Dutchess As First Purple Heart Community BEEKMAN, N.Y. -- The town of Beekman has become a Purple Heart community, the first town in Dutchess County to be a part of the Military Order of the Purple Heart Foundation. Earlier this year Beekman honored its Purple Heart recipients by making the town a Purple Heart Community, recognizing the service of Beekman’s natives during times of war. Signs designating Beekman a Purple Heart Community have been placed at every entry point into the town.
