GARFIELD, N.J. -- Mildred Scannella (nee Trocola), 82, of Garfield and formerly of Lodi, died Friday, Nov. 20. She was 82.She is survived by her husband, Vincent James “Jimmy” Scannella Sr.; her children, Vincent James Scannella Jr. of Toms River, Anthony Michael Scannella Sr. and wife Maria of Garfield, and Todd Scannella and wife Marilena of Boca Raton, Fla.; and her grandchildren, Anthony Michael Scannella Jr., Gianna and Massimo Scannella.
She was predeceased by her father, Michael Trocola; her mother, Ruth Trocola De Bruno; her stepfather, Anthony De Bruno; and sister Mattie Pampanin. …

PASSAIC, N.J. -- Adam "Smitty" Schmidt Jr., 65, of Passaic, passed away at home Saturday, Nov. 21. He was born in Steinheim, Germany, and came to the United States, settling in Passaic.
Schmidt was a truck driver for Moon Carrier of Clifton, worked as a mason in the family business, Adam Schmidt Construction Co., and retired as a truck driver for New England Motor Freight Co.
He also was a member of the Teamsters Union and a former parishioner of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Passaic.

BERGENFIELD, N.J. -- George B. Karabin, 67, a former Bergenfield councilman, died Friday, Nov. 20. Karabin was a graduate of Weehawken High School and St. Peter's College.
Most recently, he was a vice president and program manager for Xerox Corp. in its EZPass Division and was director of EZPass for the state of New York.
Karabin was active in the Bergenfield community, focusing his attention mainly on the town's youths. He worked with the PAL organization as an umpire, coach and director of the soccer program, creating the town's first indoor soccer program. He was an avid fundraiser for…

LEONIA, N.J. -- Mary R. Sander (nee Lutz) of Leonia, formerly of Palisades Park, died Thursday, Nov. 19. She was the wife of Kurt Sander, who died in 1999.
She is survived by her sons, William Sander of Sarasota, Fla., Kurt E. Sander and his wife, Nancy, of Livingston, and Kenneth Sander of Hasbrouck Heights; her grandchildren, Stephen Sander of North Carolina and Jessica Sander of Basking Ridge.; and her stepgrandchildren, Alexander and Michael Lanza of Livingston.
