Westchester/Putnam Smoke Eaters Help Community On Ice

BREWSTER, N.Y. -- The Westchester/Putnam Smoke Eaters ice hockey team is made up of firefighters, emergency medical technicians and paramedics, but the band of first responders is helping its community on the ice as well.

The Putnam/Westchester Smoke Eaters ice hockey club of first responders will host a fundraiser for area burncenters, July 26 at the Brewster Ice Arena.

The Smoke Eaters, formed last year with players from Westchester and Putnam counties, is hosting a the Fire On Ice charity hockey game to benefit area burn centers at 5 p.m. Saturday, July 26 at Brewster Ice Arena, 63 Fields Lane.

Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for children.

Brandon Timmins of Mahopac, one of the team captains and a goaltender, said the team of male and female first responders will meet the Deuce-Deuce Hockey Club, a team made up Yorktown Fire Department personnel, members of the Mount Kisco Police Department and 9-1-1 dispatchers.

"All of us are firefighters, EMTs or paramedics and we have players from all over Putnam and Westchester," Timmins said. "Some of us are former hockey players and some are new to the game. We want everyone to come out and support this important cause."

The Smoke Eaters promise a great game and the event will include a 50-50 raffle, Chuck-a-Puck contest, food and drinks and a post-game party.
