Joseph Giorgo, whose passion for sports medicine developed after he dislocated his shoulder at a baseball tournament in New Jersey a few years back, is a second year student in the BOCES Tech Center’s Sports Medicine program.
He was honored March 15 at a Board of Education meeting.
“When I hurt my shoulder, the first person who came to my side was the athletic trainer, and ever since I met that guy I have wanted to do what he did and have focused on the medical side of sports,” Giorgio said.
William Brightman, Giorgio’s teacher in the Sports Medicine program and a chiropractor with a practice in Mahopac, said that Giorgio not only has a passion for the field of sports medicine, his dedication in class is unsurpassed.
“I see Joe as a role model in class,” Brightman said. “He is a leader. When he walks in those doors he is always prepared and positive and completely on board. It’s a pretty big class and I feel like I’ve got a teacher’s assistant, and that’s Joe Giorgio.”
