Unofficial results from the New York State Board of Elections show Byrne, a first responder and volunteer for previous GOP members of Congress, easily defeating Carmel Town Councilwoman Suzi McDonough by a margin of 2,503 votes (60.02 percent) to 1,633 (39.16 percent).
The numbers show that Byrne, who grew up in Putnam County and is a graduate of Carmel High School, defeated McDonough within Putnam by 1,518 votes (55 percent) to 1,213 (43.95 percent).
Byrne's margin of victory was more lopsided in the Westchester County portion of the district. Unofficial results show that he defeated McDonough by 985 votes (69.86 percent) to 420 (29.79 percent).
"WE WON!," Byrne's campaign declared in a Facebook post on Tuesday night. "Thank you to everyone for the overwhelming support! I will do all I can to make you proud of our campaign as we move forward, all together, to victory in November! Thank you!"
Byrne will face off against Democratic candidate Brian Higbie in the Nov. 8 general election.

The Putnam portion of the 94th assembly district includes the village of Brewster, along with the towns of Putnam Valley, Carmel, Southeast and Patterson. The Westchester portion includes the towns of Yorktown and Somers.
