John D. Darling, 18, and Kevin L. Dyckman, 17, were both held at the Putnam County Correctional Facility pending arraignment, according to sheriff's deputies.

Both are charged with felony third-degree criminal mischief, misdemeanor making graffiti, and misdemeanor possession of graffiti instruments, deputies said.

Putnam County deputies responded to a report of several men spray painting the bridge at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, police said. When deputies arrived, they saw the graffiti on the concrete bridge support structure but not the suspects, police said.

After searching the area, deputies found a car matching witnesses' description in the parking lot at Appalachian Market on Route 9. When deputies questioned two people inside the car, they admitted to making the graffiti.

Sheriff's deputies also recovered a backpack with six cans of spray paint, and the colors matched the recent graffiti.
