Putnam Sheriff's Department Charges Kent Man, 58, With Larceny

KENT, N.Y. -- A Putnam County sheriff’s deputy arrested a 58-year-old resident of Kent on a charge of petty larceny following an incident at a local ShopRite, authorities said.

A deputy was dispatched to a report of a larceny at the ShopRite supermarket at 184 Route 52 in Kent on April 19 about 5:50 p.m., police report.

A loss prevention employee had apprehended a man who had passed all points of sale without attempting to pay for merchandise, according to officials.

The employee indicated that he wished to file criminal charges against the suspect, identified as James M. DeRosario; the deputy arrested DeRosario and charged him with petty larceny, a misdemeanor, police report.

The defendant was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and released, pending a future appearance in Carmel Justice Court to answer the charge, according to officials.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charge, the defendant could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.
