Police Ask Public's Help In Mahopac Homicide Investigation

PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. -- Police are asking the public's help as they search for a suspect after a 75-year-old Mahopac woman was found dead inside her home on Thursday, the victim of a homicide.

Perla Gatchalian of Coventry Circle was found around 3:18 p.m. after the Carmel Police Department received a call from a concerned neighbor who not seen Gatchalian in a while.

When officers arrived at the home near Astor Drive, they found Gatchalian dead inside her home, the apparent victim of a homicide, said Carmel Police Chief Michael Cazzari. Gatchalian had been dead for several hours prior to the arrival of police.

Further details regarding how Gatchalian died have not yet been released and the cause of death remains under investigation and is pending an autopsy, Cazzari added.

Cazzari said residents should not be alarmed and go about their lives as they normally would, describing the neighborhood as safe.

The police department is asking that anyone who may have information to contact the Detective Division at 845-628-1300. All calls will be kept confidential. 

The Carmel Police Department is being assisted by the New York State Police, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department and the Putnam County District Attorney’s Office.
