Celso N. Cantoral-Cruz, 29, was charged Tuesday with second-degree attempted murder, felony assault, and criminal possession of a weapon, said Trooper AJ Hicks, spokesman for the state police.
Members of the New York State Police, Village of Brewster Police Department, and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department responded to a reported stabbing that occurred outside of El Pueblo Restaurant and Lounge on Main Street around 1:30 a.m., Hicks said.
An investigation indicated that Cantoral-Cruz had stabbed the victim in the abdomen outside of the restaurant and fled the scene on foot. With the assistance of the Sheriff’s Office, Cantoral-Cruz was located inside of his Main Street residence, he added.
The victim, a 23-year-old Brewster resident, remains in critical condition at Danbury Hospital, Hicks said.
Cantoral-Cruz was arraigned before the Town of Southeast Justice Court and remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $250,000 cash bail or $500,000 property bond.
