It happened June 6 at the upstate Clinton Correctional Facility when convicted murderers Richard Matt and David Sweat did just that, leading to a massive three-week manhunt that resulted in the shooting death of Matt and capture of Sweat.

Now, Mexican authorities have launched a massive search of their own following the escape of notorious drug kingpin Joaquin Guzman.

Guzman, known as "El Chapo," led one of the most deadly and powerful drug-trafficking operations in the world before his 2014 capture at a Mexican beach resort. He had earlier escaped from prison in 2001 by way of a laundry cart.

In his latest escape, which occurred sometime Saturday, Guzman exited his cell from a hole before making his way through a nearly mile-long tunnel, a Mexico government official said Sunday.

Like Matt and Sweat, it was discovered Guzman had escaped during a routine cell check.
