Putnam Valley Fire Chief David Anderson Jr. said the firefighters were able to douse the flames within 10 minutes of arriving at the home.
"My guys did great work and saved the home," Anderson said.
The home's residents were able to escape without injuries, he added.
The home received extensive damage in the garage and a small amount in the living room. The rest of the home received smoke damage.
Anderson said the homeowners will be able to have repairs done and return home.
The department was assisted by the Mohegan Fire Department, the Putnam Valley Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department and the New York State Police.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
