Wagner was accompanied by members of NARAL Pro-Choice New York, Planned Parenthood Hudson and the Westchester Coalition for Legal Abortion and Assemblywoman Sandra Galef.
Murphy was criticized by Wagner for not supporting the Women's Equality Act.
“This is one of those issues where there couldn’t be a clearer contrast: I am proudly pro-choice, and if elected, I will not rest until the full 10-point Women’s Equality Act is passed and signed into law,” said Wagner. “Equal pay, protecting a woman’s right to make her own healthcare decisions, stronger protections against domestic violence and human trafficking – none of these are optional. We need to pass the full Women’s Equality Act."
Tracy Brooks of the Planned Parenthood Advocates of New York Political Committee said her group was proud to endorse Wagner because he respects the privacy of New Yorkers in making health care decisions.
“Our communities need state legislators who will support the essential services our centers provide and that our patients both need and deserve,” said Brooks.
Galef said it is important that women keep fighting for equality.
"Our laws are so old, they need to be updated," Galef said. "If we don't have Justin, we're doomed. His vote is key to passing the Women's Equality Act.
TJ McCormack, a spokesman for Murphy, said Murphy had no intention of overturning abortion law.
"Justin Wagner supports Governor Cuomo's disturbing plan to expand the state’s abortion laws that would allow non-doctors to perform abortions and late term and partial birth abortions up to the moment of natural delivery," McCormack said. "Dr. Murphy supports every aspect of the Women's Equality Act including among others equal pay for women, protections against domestic violence and human trafficking. He would vote for all of those parts of the act today."
Murphy and Wagner are competing in the 40th District which covers Pleasantville, Armonk, Bedford, Yorktown, Briarcliff, Chappaqua, Cortlandt, Lewisboro, Mount Pleasant, Mount Kisco, North Salem, Peekskill, Pound Ridge, Somers and parts of Putnam and Dutchess counties.
