New York Ranks Low Among States To Have A Baby

PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. -- New York was recently ranked as the 45th best state to have a baby in a recent survey by personal finance social network WalletHub.

WalletHub analyzed information across three categories including: Budget, health care for new moms and babies and baby-friendly environments. 

The Empire State struggled in both the budget and baby-friendly environment categories, ranking 46th and 48th respectively. New York was 11th in health care. 

The state's worst showing came in the sub-category of average annual infant care costs, where it ranked 50th out of 51, including Washington, D.C. 

Vermont, Maine, Oregon, Connecticut and New Hampshire made up the top five states. 

Nevada, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama were the only states below New York.
