Hudson Valley Casino Rivalry Is Under Way

PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. -- Residents from different sections in the Hudson Valley are beginning to battle over the proper location for resort-style casinos that were approved last year, according to The Wall Street Journal.

A public hearing was held in Poughkeepsie on Tuesday that unveiled plans for casinos that could be placed in two different areas.

Some at the meeting advocated the building of the casino in Sullivan County in an effort to revive the tourism industry in the area following the decline of the resort industry.

Others, however, pushed for the casino to be built in southern Orange County where it can maximize traffic from New York City visitors, The Wall Street Journal said.
