PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Putnam County Department of Health has closed down several beaches until further notice due to green algae, according to theexaminernews.com.

Tonetta Lake and all of the beaches at Lake Peekskill have been shuttered due to the algae. Authorities have said there is no timetable to reopen the beaches. Temperatures, rainfall and other conditions are all contributing factors, theexaminernews.com said.
