Deadline Nears To Recertify Handgun Licenses

Handgun owners have a little over a month before they have to recertify their handguns.

New Yorkers have until Jan. 31 to recertify their handgun licenses.

Holders of handgun licenses issued prior to Jan. 15, 2013 must recertify their licenses with the New York State Police by Jan. 31. Covered licensees who fail to recertify by that date could be subject to having their licenses suspended or revoked without further notice, according to the Putnam County Sherrif's Office.

The State Police offers an online recertification process for all handgun licenses issued in New York, with the exception of those issued in Westchester.
