While Accuweather provided a chilly and dire forecast for the Northeast on Wednesday, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is favoring warmer than average temperatures for the region.
NOAA, in a report released Thursday, did say it believes there is potential for above average precipitation all along the eastern seaboard, but didn't provide any snowfall totals because of the large variance that occurs with storm tracks and strength of storms.
Accuweather, on the other hand, is predicting a return of the dreaded polar vortex, which will bring frigid temperatures to the area. Long-range forecasters for Accuweather said the cold snaps would be more sporadic than last year, and that snow totals would be above average for residents west of the Interstate 95 corridor.
